Tourist Attractions in Nantou, Taiwan 【台湾南投旅游景点推荐】 – Checheng Station and Xiangshan Visitor Center

Nantou (南投), best known for the Sun Moon Lake (日月潭), is the second largest county of Taiwan. It is one of the places that you should definitely visit when you are in Taiwan.

1The Checheng Station is the final terminal of the famous Jiji tourist railroad (集集支线)。 It used to be an important station in the transportation of construction materials and timbre.2You will be walking in from the Checheng Old Street (车埕老街) to the railway. During the walk, enjoy the scenery offered by this rustic little town. 3Have fun walking along the railway tracks! 4We were so lucky to catch this train entering the station. 5You might like to board the train too. Here is the list of the train timings. 6Before you do that, remember to visit the Checheng Wood Museum, also known as the Checheng Logging Exhibition Hall (车埕木业馆).
7As Checheng prospered in wood logging in its heyday, this museum hopes to showcase its long history and its contributions to Taiwan’s timbre industry.8It is important to note that Checheng Wood Museum was originally a factory. It was badly damaged due to the 921 Earthquake. In the aftermath, the factory was rebuilt using wood and steel. It has since became a popular architectural site and was even awarded the Taiwan Architecture Award in 2009. 9Take some time to appreciate the beauty of this museum. 🙂 9 101112The souvenirs here are pretty decent too.  13Check out these postcards made out of Cypress wood.

Cedar Tea House (车埕木茶房)

If you are hungry after all the exploration at Checheng, just head down to the Cedar Tea House which is just 2 minutes walk away from the museum.
1618 This tea house was pretty packed when we were there but we were glad that there was an area allocated for us. 19 This was the view from the table that I was sitting at. How pretty! ❤ 21 17And without further delay, the food~

This was what I had – the Smoked Chicken Drumstick Set (烟熏鸡腿木桶饭) (NTD390 / SGD17). It is slightly pricey but you can bring back the wood bucket after eating! 23The Grilled Mackerel Set (盐烤鲭鱼木桶饭) (NTD390 / SGD17). 22The Dongpo Meat Set (东坡肉木桶饭) (NTD390 / SGD17). 24I was really hungry and I simply gobbled down all the food. 🙂 2520Estimated duration of stay: 1 hour

Xiangshan Visitor Center (向山游客中心)

After lunch, we took a coach to the new visitor center and tourist attraction, the Xiangshan Visitor Center. I have recently watched a Taiwanese blogger introducing this place on TV and I am so glad to be able to visit so shortly after! It is now my turn to introduce the center to all my readers. Feeling blessed. 🙂

The architectural form of this entire place is really special and I learnt that they spent a lot of time and effort in building this center. Apparently, the simplest looking architecture typically requires the most work.2728This visitor center offers a good vantage point of the Sun Moon Lake and is definitely a great place to catch the beautiful sunset in Nantou.
2930 31Chill out at this cafe too! 3233
